A PMO (or Project Management Office) is a team, or more occasionally, an individual responsible for defining and maintaining project management standards. An effective Portfolio, Programme or Project Management Office should aim to deliver governance, transparency, reusability, delivery support and traceability.
CUPE International’s David Roberts and Sheila Roberts are in Ghana this week. They are on-site delivering consultancy services to support an international bank’s Project Management Office (PMO) as a Centre of Excellence.
Project Management Offices, or PMO’s, reflect the organisations they are part of. As each organisation is unique, so is each PMO. Implementing and maintaining a PMO is therefore by default not a standard procedure but should always be done with regards to the organisational context. Recognising this is the first step in running a successful PMO.
